REVIEW

August 03, 2012

This 2 CD set released last year titled simply "Akira Ifukube" contains the world premiere CD release of SINFONIA TAPKAARA by Yasushi Akutagawa & New Symphony Orchestra. Kazuo Yamada conducts, the Shinsei Nihon Symphony Orchestra (Disc 1 tracks 1-2, Disc 2 track 3).

Recordings: May 13, 1980 (Disc 1 1), May 27, 1986 (Disc 1 track 2), August 8, 1977 (Disc 1 track 3), April 6, 1980 (Disc 1 track 4, Disc 2 track 2), February 10, 1983 (Disc 2 track 2), September 12, 1979 (Disc 2 track 3).

The tracks on this 2 CD set have been released before on other CD's but I believe this is the first set to bring them all together in one place. Fortunately this CD is still fairly easy to get while others containing this music are mostly out of print and hard to find. As always I found this music composed by Akira Ifukube to be very relaxing and easy to listen to. The conductors and symphony orchestras here do an excellent job of representing these pieces.
