REVIEW |
January 08, 2005 Review courtesy of John DeSentis Son of Godzilla is the second of the two Sato scores, and my favorite one at that. Sato manages to capture the "island" feel again with this score, but amazingly none of the material is recycled from the last score. He uses a very fun and upbeat theme for Minya, while introducing yet a new theme for Godzilla. The sonic massage that was given to these soundtracks really works wonders for this one. A standout track that I heavily enjoy is track #8, "Experiment Preparation". His Kamakiras theme is also excellent. My favorite track however would definitely have to be the end theme where Godzilla and Minya are embracing in the snow. The music is so sad, yet so uplifting. It hints at an uncertain situation but also gives hope. The best part about the bonus material is that we get two alternate versions of this incredible finale theme. I highly enjoyed this CD even for the millionth time I’ve listened to the score! It never gets old or sounds dated. Other alternate takes include the Godzilla theme and several island cues. Absolutely incredible. I would definitely recommend all these perfect boxes, even to those that have the originals from 1993. I have them all, but these box sets are a soundtrack enthusiasts dream. Sony recently released this film on DVD and it looks and sounds gorgeous. I highly recommend picking that up as well. |
