REVIEW

"Mothra vs. Godzilla" is one of my all time favorites in this series both musically and the film. What can I say, I love the big bug! I also very much enjoy the singing and harmonizing of the little twins. Akira Ifukube by this third outing is still getting better every time out and giving us brand new music. The 1st track, "Main Title", is a great and very memorable one. Track #5, "The Little Beauty's Theme Song", is a very sweet, lilting, fantasy type number. "Reflections Of The Little Beauty", track #6, is also well done and will pop up in many more movies under different titles. After giving us very short running times on the last three CD's, this one is relatively full clocking in at over 58 minutes. Lot's of interesting and familiar short cues here but also many longer songs. Track #11, "The Appearance Of Godzilla", contains some nice reworking of themes heard in the first film and the version here will be repeated in many other movies along with tracks #12 & #13. Track #17 listed as "The Sacred Fountain" is a very touching, singing prayer type song to Mothra by The Peanuts. It's a sweet, tender, slow tune with great harmony. This song is not to be confused with the well known and probably over used "Mothra's Song" which is track #18 on this disc. "Mothra's Song" here is sung accapella.

My overall opinion of this CD is that it works great in the movie but is also very listenable as stand alone music apart from the movie. Track #29 is an add on instrumental tune with a slow jazz feel to it. Tracks #30, 31 & 32 are instrumental version of some previous cuts and are listed as Karaoke versions. This CD is a must have in your collection and if you get a chance to buy it, grab it. It's now out of print. However it has been nicely redone as part of the new Box Set 1 released September 20, 2004. See CD 4 on this site from that set. The set itself is located here at: 50th Anniversary GODZILLA Soundtrack Perfect Collection
