REVIEW

September 24, 2025 (Written June 27th, 2025 by Sam Scali)

In 2014, Bukimisha released HYDROGEN BOMB GIANT MONSTER (G.R.F.60A1), their 60th Anniversary vocal interpretation of the full musical score from the film GODZILLA (1954), composed by Akira Ifukube. As that CD is now out of print, the group decided to release a new CD-R to commemorate 70 years since the film's release. The program is divided into two tracks - an audio recreation of GODZILLA's original movie trailer, and a condensed audio drama (slightly longer than an hour) of the film itself, including spoken dialogue and vocalized portions of Ifukube's score. Both of these recordings originally appeared as bonus tracks on Bukimisha's 60th Anniversary CD, but are remixed here to emulate the stereo mixes of Toho's 2-LP "drama" soundtracks, released by King/Starchild Records in the 1980s. Most of those albums featured the music on the left channel and dialogue/sound effects on the right, although the "Godzilla" edition was only available in mono.

While this release will undoubtedly be enjoyable to Japanese listeners, fans who don't speak the language will find it difficult to follow, especially if they are unfamiliar with the plot of the movie. Regardless, it's an entertaining listening experience, with spirited (and often humorous) recitation, and the a capella vocal music, as always, is impeccably performed.

Bukimisha CDs are available to non-Japanese buyers through BOOTH (The International Indie Art Marketplace) by using a proxy service or other intermediary: https://bukimisya-maal.booth.pm/
