REVIEW

The score CD to the 1998 US Godzilla by David Arnold is no Akira Ifukube soundtrack but is pleasant to listen to. The so called soundtrack CD released about the same time as this, Godzilla in name only, movie was nothing but a terrible mish mash of noise aimed at young adults. Considering you can find that CD almost anywhere for a few dollars I'd say it was a bomb. This CD however is of David Arnold's score to the movie and is buried so deep in the movie mix you almost never hear it which was a shame. While I certainly prefer Ifukube's rousing marches and Godzilla themes, Mr. Arnold does a nice job on this score. It's not one of my favorites by him but is still a pleasant listen. I'd have to say this is a middle of the road CD music wise. Nothing really bad but nothing that will stick in your head for any length of time. This score CD is kind of hard to find and will cost you about the same as the Japanese Godzilla imports since so far it hasn't been released commercially to the general public.
