| REVIEW |
Unlike HOWL, this set is a genuine collection of Toho sound effects. Besides the many grunts and groans of Godzilla, his friends and adversaries, we also have the sounds the beasties weapons (Hedorah’s heat ray to Mecha-Godzilla’s arsenal) and movements (King Ghidorah and Mothra’s flying sounds). Also included are the many Self Defense Force weapon sounds, submarine, spacecraft and flying saucer effects. Obviously not as entertaining as a music CD, but a lot of fun if you enjoy the unique sound effects of Toho’s fantasy films. Unfortunately, the set only comprises material created for the first (Showa) series, GODZILLA (1954) to TERROR OF MECHA-GODZILLA (1975) and are therefore monaural. However, special stereo mixes have been created at the end of each disc to simulate your own imaginary kaiju battle. -- David Hirsch |
