REVIEW

January 22, 2012

On November 15, 2012 David Schecter and the crew of Monstrous Movie Music at: http://www.mmmrecordings.com/ put out four new, wonderful CD's of old "B" movies from the 1950's full of rare tracks. I am a big fan of his CD's and own most of them. You can't go wrong with any of the CD's from their site. It's easy to see and hear how much work and soul they put into each release. Nowhere else but on their CD's can you find the music from these early 1950's & 1960's Sci-Fi, monster and horror films.

This CD contains no music used in Godzilla movies but is a great listening experience and inspired music in Japanese Sci-Fi and monster films into the 1960's. Plus this does fall under the "... And Other Monster Music" in the title of this site. This CD actually contains the music to two films. By today's standards these movies are pretty tame and the special effects in some cases done poorly but then they didn't have access to today's technology so it's pretty amazing they could do what they did with what they had to work with. Being much older now than when I first saw these films I still enjoy them but am not as fascinated by them as I was as a youngster. While most people today have only seen these movies on chopped up TV broadcasts or now on DVD, I was fortunate enough to have seen many of these films in a theater. There used to be a second run theater in town when I was a young boy and they played many of these films. The music itself from many of these movies is typical and just listening to the tracks realize many could have been interchangeable with other films of the period and type. However these CD's are a great listening experience and bring back memories. Even the most cheaply made films of the era had music to help the visuals unlike many movies today that just recycle songs by other artists that were once popular on the radio.
