January 5, 2002 Apparently this Lupin The 3rd was a popular animation series in Japan known as Rupan sansei in Japanese. This particular soundtrack is from a non animation movie made of the character. From the movie stills in the booklet it reminds me of the British TV "Avengers" series, particularly during the Diana Rigg/Linda Thorsen years. I looked around for information on this particular movie but was unable to find anything except the animated titles in the series. Maybe this movie was known under another name that I am unaware of. Anyway, for this live action film, Masaru Sato was chosen to score the film. The music here is very good with a variety of flavors. Most tracks are kind of Jazz oriented but the main theme, while catchy, comes across to me like something you might hear in a cowboy movie being played on the piano in a saloon or maybe something from an old English dance hall. Either way, I was pleasantly surprised by the music and enjoyed it very much. I guess my biggest complaint would be that the CD, while boasting 29 tracks, has a very short running time of just over a half hour. |
