REVIEW |
This CD actually has music from 3 different movies: "X From Outer Space", "VAMPIRE GOKEMIDORO" and "THE GREAT INSECT WAR". I have never seen these movies but would like to if I ever get a chance. The music on the CD is a mixed bag at best. About half is really good action/suspense type music (mostly the tracks by Shunsuke Kikuchi) and the other half is real cheesy sounding. The cheesy tracks almost sound like something you'd hear from a small semi-pro combo playing weddings back in the 1960's and 1970's. Hopefully the music works better in the movie than as a stand alone listening experience. Track 1 is a vocal track with dialogue and sounds somewhat like lounge music. Tracks 7 & 8 feature an instrument that sounds as if it's trying to replicate the sound of a strong wind blowing. I can't tell if it's being done with strings, a kazoo or a slide whistle. Track 9 is very sweet sounding female vocal track while track 10 is a male vocal chorus. There is also quite a bit of repetition among the tracks with several of them sounding a lot alike. Overall I can't tell if I liked this CD or not. Parts of it were really enjoyable and other parts were not too good. It's worth a listen if you can find it cheap but probably won't get too many repeat playings. |
