Born on April 1, 1941 in Aichi prefecture, Emi Ito (Birth name Hideyo Ito) and her twin sister Yumi Ito (Birth name Tsukiko Ito) were known as the popular singing duo The Peanuts. They were discovered by Watanabe Pro founder Sho Watanabe when he first saw them performing at a club in Nagoya as the Ito Sisters, and in 1958 brought them to Tokyo, where they were dubbed The Peanuts. Their records were very popular in Japan during the 1950's & 1960's. I've been told they even appeared here in the U.S. on "The Ed Sullivan Show". They also appeared in several films including several Mothra and Godzilla films. The duo retired from performing 4 April 1975.

If you like the music of Emi and Yumi Ito as I do, then you will certainly enjoy this 6 CD box set. I won't make an attempt to review each disc separately because they are all somewhat similar. All the discs contain a mix of pop, folk, and romance songs. Many are covers of popularly known tunes from the US, Britain, Italy and other countries. If you are expecting Godzilla and Mothra tunes then this set is not for you. There are only two songs among the six discs that come from their Mothra appearances. Most songs are sung in Japanese but there are also some sung all or partially in English, Italian, German and Spanish. I really enjoyed the whole set and can recommend it if you enjoy this type music and don't already have the four 2 CD sets of singles since most of the material in this box set is duplicated on those CD's.
